Fuzzy control, monocular mapping, and range-only SLAM — where the work started.
Master’s and undergraduate work in Brazil, spanning fuzzy and proportional control for wall-following robots, topological mapping via fuzzy structural recognition, environment mapping from monocular vision, and a dual-antenna approach to range-only SLAM. It also includes work outside robotics entirely — a portable optical system for human gait analysis, an educational chemistry game, and a systematic review of robotics in education. None of it is Connected Robotics. All of it is why the current questions are asked the way they are.

The proposal of this work consists in an approach based on the utilization of two Wi-Fi receivers, using RSS information received by the transmission nodes (Access Point) for the SLAM problem. The solution presented is based on extended Kalman filter using RSS coming from different transmitters in the environment. This approach was chosen because the Cellbot platform has two Wi-Fi receivers, therefore combining the two range-only sensors improves the precision of the system. The system considers that a robot navigates in an unknown environment where it receives different Wi-Fi signals from a known source. Through the odometry and Wi-Fi signals, the robot localizes itself and the position of each Wi-Fi transmitter. The results show the viability of the application, and an increase of 38% in precision of the robot pose by using proposed approach.

This paper goal is to present a systematic revision of the works related to robotic on education, which were published on three national events of this area: Informatics on Education Brazilian Symposium (SBIE), Informatics on School Workshop (WIE), Robotics on Education Workshop (WRE), between 2004 to 2014. The results shown an increasing interest of brazilian community for the area, highlighting the northeast and southeast regions of Brazil responsible for most of the works. It was also found that 63% of this works represents proposals of the use of robotics on elementary school with new methodologies and robots to assist pedagogy in the use of robotics.
